Análisis bibliométrico de la Revista Chilena de Ornitología (Boletín Chileno de Ornitología): Tendencias y avances en 23 años de historia

Bibliometrics is a tool used to assess the information, processes and, visibility of scientific literature and can be useful to assess trends of a scientific journal through time. A bibliometric analysis of the Chilean Journal of Ornithology was carried to examine trends of its 23 years considering different variables that influence in its editorial and publishing process. From 1994 to 2017, the Chilean Journal of Ornithology has published 23 volumes and 290 manuscripts (87 Articles and 203 Short Contributions) and it has been cited 810 times. I observed a tendency to decrease the number of publications over the years. However, this trend was not significant. Articles are more cited than Short Contributions. The range of days of the review process (from reception to acceptance) was 2 to 692 and the corresponding author’s gender, type of publication, and year of publication influenced significantly. The editorial process fluency is an important factor to choose where to send a manuscript. Thus, it is necessary to speed up these processes for the Chilean Journal of Ornithology to be attractive to the authors and in that way increase the numbers and the periodicity of publications.
